DeprieveLAtion:

Los Angeles is a sprawling metropolis that is yet to reflect cultural diversity in a positive manner. Most BIPOCs live in high-density communities – often lacking resources that allow for recreation and exploration of one’s cultural identity. These communities are also highly subject to gentrification, causing the displacement of people thereby affecting their sense of belonging.

Redefining the narrative of LA’s urban fabric will be achieved though the synthesis of deprivation (the lack or denial of something considered to be a necessity), and revelation (the making known of something that was previously secret or unknown) – a fusion known as deprievelation. It identifies elements that promote a sustainable city, retrieve lost fragments of our identity, and establish the presence of the forgotten. This allows for the discovery of the common ground – qualities that make us different but similar at the same time -- for personal reflection and catalyst for conversation.
